Leaving Wine Uncorked Overnight
Many people have wondered if leaving a bottle of wine sitting out overnight without a cork is going to get them sick or be bad for them. Well, here’s the answer!
Drinking wine after letting sit out is NOT bad for you! Most wines will benefit from sitting out for a half hour, but overnight is too long and will likely impact the flavor but you definitely can still drink it and it will likely taste decent.
The more oxygen the wine is exposed to, the more it will oxidize and the fruit in the wine will bruise the way an apple might when sitting on your counter too long.
Now, placing an open bottle or glass in the fridge will help slow down the oxidizing process, but it will definitely still happen. Try to remember to cork that bottle at all costs. If you lose the cork, find something else to cover it with. Suran Wrap can help. Use a twisty tie or tape to seal the Suran Wrap on good so no oxygen can get through.
But the good news is that you can let your wine sit out as long as you want and still drink it! The bad news is, after a day, it definitely will start tasting a little funky and you probably should just toss it and pick up another bottle.
Wine is cheap enough just to go grab another bottle and with all the wine clubs out there, you can get wine sent to your door for like $6 a bottle. I reviewed a bunch of the clubs out there, take a look at my top 5: http://www.winemind.com/top-5-wine-clubs/
